19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE COUNTRY PRIMITIVE COBBLERS BENCH
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We're delighted to offer for sale this exceptional 19th century antique country primitive cobblers bench. We're advertising this as a cobblers bench for visibilty but believe it had a much more specific use. This is certainly an unusual piece with tenoned legs, a 4 section work tray and a heavy center column with an iron banding and iron blank. We believe this is an early nail forging bench. Nail cutting was a big business in the 18th & 19th century, so much so many of our founding fathers were in nail production as they were an always in demand commodity. The center columns features a lambs tongue carving on each corner adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the piece. This is a very rare primitive piece we can seeing being used in a multitude of ways decoratively.
