With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to bring to market this exceptional set of 6 19th century Girandole chairs. Sets of Girandole chairs are extremely rare and were difficult and time consuming to make. The chairs are crafted from the absolute best grade of Mahogany with the best cuts reserved for the crests and splats. The crests have a nice scrolling pattern with a harmonious transition to the curved stiles. The chairs have a tasteful light green fabric with a repeating floral pattern. The front saber legs are well balanced and the rear legs have a very dramatic splay. Girandole chairs evolved from French Empire designs and were really only made in Boston, Philadelphia, & New York. About 10 years ago we had a very similar set that we knew were from Boston and strongly believe these are Boston chairs. These were probably made in Isaac Vose’s workshop and if they are New York chairs they’re every bit the quality of Lannuier’s circle. The chairs are in wonderful condition with our only notes being a professional restoration where the stiles meet the crests on 3 chairs. The repairs can be seen in our gallery image on the back left chair, the back right chair, and the front center chair. The chairs measure 18 1/2” wide x 18 1/2” deep x 32 1/4” tall with a seat height of 18 1/2”. These ideal proportions with a near perfect 1.75 ratio were no accident and demonstrate a superior understanding of cabinet making.
