19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE SHERATON PERIOD DROP LEAF MAHOGANY DINING / BANQUET TABLE
With our highest compliments we're extremely proud to offer for sale this stunning early 19th century antique Sheraton mahogany drop leaf dining table. Those who follow us understand the time, dedication & passion we invest into our practice. We continually scour the country in pursuit of top tier investment grade antiques for our discerning clients. We're always in the market for these and are ecstatic to bring this period New England table to market. This table is crafted from the absolute best grades of imported Caribbean mahogany. Examining the proportions, style, grade of lumber, top tier carving work, and a multitude of other factors we feel confident in saying this is a Salem, MA / north shore table. The table features magnificent single board tops & single board leafs. These cuts of mahogany represent the absolute best grade of imported timber and wouldn't be available outside of a major trade city like Salem, Boston, or Philadelphia. The table is in it's original surface finished in a beautiful red mahogany finish. If you attempted to have this table commissioned today it would be impossible, the wood doesn't exist anymore. Caribbean mahogany is the best in the world with special oil densities & mineral deposits that give it it's signature sheen. Caribbean mahogany was immensely popular in 18th & 19th century cabinet making and was farmed to near extinction levels. This dining table has masterfully carved acanthus formed legs with carved patterae designs along the apron. Each end of the dining table measures 48" wide x 24 1/2" deep x 29" tall when closed. When the leaves are extended and the table is completely set up it measures 48" wide x 95 3/4" long x 29" tall.
