Grunwald, a German born artist, traveled the orient in the early 20th century painting scenes of Istanbul, Jerusalem, etc. This is a masterfully done luminous scene of Istanbul towers as seen from the harbor at dusk. The work is dated 1922 and retains it's original gilt wood carved frame and backing. We note a possession tag on the backboard reading DR Albina. New Gate, Jerusalem. It was common for early 20th century professionals to make the journey and often brought back art and cultural objects. We acquired this from one of the best multi-generational Judaic silver collections we've had the pleasure of handling. This masterfully done work is sure to attract many a keen collectors. It could probably use a cleaning, we haven't touched it a bit we'll leave that up to the future owner.
