We are honored to offer you this very special18th Century Chippendale period mahogany oxbow desk regionalized to Connecticut circa 1790. This desk possesses a very rare and interesting case with a hollowed out storage safe behind a fully formed faux drawer facing. This desk appears to have 4 drawers but actually has 3. The desk's interior is very sophisticated as well with a 2 tier amphitheater format, a vast array of block fronted drawers, slide out flanking safes, cubbies, moldings and a sliding door accessing its main safe compartment in its case. The desk retains all its original curicuted brasses, locks ,keys and hinges. The brass is complete , mint & the very highest quality English imported brass backplates, hinges, pulls, eyes & escutcheons of the 18th century. It possesses 2 hand chamfered back panels in native New England white pine fasten with channels & rosehead nails & 3 wonderful original old growth solid plank pine drawer panels showing strong hand tool marks and chamfering. Noteworthy are these extremely well formed carved blaw & claw bandi feet on a highly crafted base apron moldings that surround the desks bottom. The desk has been refinished and had restorations to its lid addressing seasoning shrinkage splits. It is a 250 year old period desk that is entirely correct. We guarantee the lid is original to the case and it possesses all its original elements. Collectors know they are looking at a very rare variation on the American Chippendale Oxbow masterpiece. The desk retains very interesting old pencil script that is for the most part legible discussing a maker or possibly who commissioned the desk's making and its Connecticut origins. It is 34" long, 18" wide and 48 1/4" tall.
