Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 19th century antique Massachusetts Federal period Mahogany card table / console table. We’ve handled many similar tables throughout our careers, but never one quite like this. If you’re looking for a unique, singular object to add to your home or collection this may be the card table for you.The most unique feature of this card table is the carved center cartouche on the front of the table box. The carvings are amid a field of punch carved stars that we mainly encounter on furniture from Eastern Massachusetts, most notably on Salem furniture & North Shore furniture. The card table has a fantastic pineapple carved column with opposing leaf carvings at the bottom of the column and base of the table. Directly below the lower leaves there is a reed carved ring around the base of the table and 4 down swept saber legs with a dramatic curve terminating in ball feet. The table is in great condition considering its age and despite the few minor issues we were willing look past them being it’s such a rare form. There are a couple of scratches on the top of the table which we have standalone pictures of, and some minor age splits on the base of the pedestal. There’s also an age split on the reed carved ring at the base, but they’re all stable and don’t affect the structural integrity of the table or are at any risk of expanding. The card table measures 36” wide x 18” deep x 28 1/2” tall. When the top is open the table measures 35 3/4” wide x 38” deep x 28 1/8” tall.
