ANTIQUE 18TH CENTURY COUNTRY CHIPPENDALE TIGER MAPLE & BIRDS EYE MAPLE SLANT LID SECRETARY DESK
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

With our highest compliments we're proud to bring to market this exceptional and choice American country Chippendale Birds Eye Maple & Tiger Maple Slant Lid Secretary Desk. We have the privilege of handling important American furniture on a regular basis whether it be through our sales platform or countless hours working with various local institutions. Those who follow us see the high volume of goods we process through this platform each year. We're lucky to find a handful of desks of this caliber any given year then acquiring them is the real battle. Nobody ever wants to part with their tiger maple slant lid they seem to always be the focal point of the collection. Our clients demand the best and we will always step up to meet our clients desires.
The desk is made of the absolute best grains of Tiger & Birds Eye Maple. This desk glows with a lustrous shine in a bright amber color. The case and drawers are all finely dovetailed and the desk features four graduated drawers with Chippendale bat wing brasses and brass escutcheon covers. All drawers actuate with ease. This desk hasn't been re-drilled and re-brassed with reproduction hardware like most we see today. The drawers are hand chamfered retaining the original glue blocks and the backboards are rich with a nice old oxidized surface. The paneled lid opens to reveal a fully fitted interior of 8 birds eye maple drawers above 8 pigeon holes with a center valence door that opens to 2 additional B.E.M drawers. The hinges have not ripped out like most we see today. This desk was cherished by the family we acquired it from and it shows. Our collectors are very big on purity and correctness when shopping and we understand and wholly take note in our buying process. The only note we can really make on this piece are a few small stable seasoning splits clearly shown in the photos. They're stable and at no risk of expanding. We could have them filled at buyers request but in our opinion we'd leave it alone this is a pure true early New England gem we wouldn't want to see altered.
