With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to bring to market this phenomenal early 18th century antique Oak Bible box. For an 18th century box this example is in exceptional condition with our only condition notes being minor surface wear and a small piece of base molding missing from the left side. The front face is heavily carved with a repeating floral design, punch carvings, E & B monograms, and it’s dated 1722. The box retains all of its original integrity with the original iron hinges, hasp, lock, and escutcheon still present. There’s an old restoration on the back panel but the box just surpassed 300 years old and is one of the cleanest, best examples we’ve encountered in years. Bible boxes are generally a similar size intended to house large folio Bibles and other important documents. The E & B carved into the face are probably the original owners initials. The interior of the box has useable dimensions of 20” wide x 13” deep x 9 1/4” tall. The overall dimensions of the box are 21 1/2” wide x 14” deep x 10 1/8” tall. When the lid is fully open the height is 24” tall.
