With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this exceptionally rare 18th century antique Queen Anne Connecticut Chestnut tavern / hutch table. We strongly believe this is a Connecticut table and have searched for similar examples in local house museums and in America’s finest public & private furniture collections. We’ve searched our extensive reference library but even in our specialized Connecticut furniture books there aren’t as many examples as a more prolific cabinet making city like Boston, Philadelphia, or New York. The table would have been originally painted with a milk paint that was lost to oxidation, cleaning, & handling over 250+ years. The table has a large rectangular 2 board top and pivots with ease. The table has robust arms with fantastic frame and panel construction with deep hand chamfered panels rich with tool marks. The center of the seat can lift up and the entire base cabinet can be used for extra storage. Furniture from the Windsor area tends to be a little more heavily decorated but the original painted surface could explain why further decoration wasn’t needed. We believe this was made in a coastal Connecticut community but again the reference material is incomplete and the table is likely one of a kind. We’d love to devote more time and effort into the research but we’re so busy with new inventory our warehouses are becoming impossible to move around in and the house calls never stop coming. This is without a doubt one of the best New England hutch tables we've had the pleasure of offering and are excited to bring it to market for our collectors around the US. The arm posts have a nice subtle lambs tongue carving and the entire table is just wonderful through and through. The table is in fantastic condition with our only condition note being a small age split to the right panel on the front. The table measures 55” wide x 22” deep x 52” tall. The seat measures 36” wide with an 18 1/2” seat height. When the top is flipped down the table top measures 55" wide x 36" deep and is 29 3/4” tall.
