Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this delightful 18th century antique Queen Anne Pennsylvania blanket box. This is a fantastic 6 board box with a magnificent faux mahogany grain paint. The box is joined at each side with an impressive set of hand cut dovetails and retains its original hinges & escutcheon. The box still has the original molding around the lid and stands on wonderful flared French feet with a nice cut out pattern on the sides. We call furniture like this transitional furniture because it was designed with both Queen Anne and Hepplewhite elements. Furniture styles were ever evolving and there wasn’t a strict cut off when one style would end and another would come into fashion but more of a gradual transition as upper class tastes evolved. The box is in fantastic condition with our only notes being the missing hasp & lock and a restoration done to the split on the lid and on the baseboard. The split on the lid was properly restored with inset biscuits and is not at any risk of expanding. The chest measures 43” wide x 21” deep x 24 1/2” tall. When the lid is fully open the height is 44 1/2” tall.
