18th C Antique Pair of Chippendale Mahogany Side Chairs
18th C Antique Pair of Chippendale Mahogany Side Chairs
Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic pair of 18th century antique Chippendale Mahogany side chairs. This form was used throughout New England but if we had to narrow it down we’d say these are probably Massachusetts chairs. The chairs have a Cupid’s bow crest rail with rolled ears that have scroll carvings on the inside edge. The splats are pierce carved with great use of the negative space and the splats are free of any repairs thanks to their robust stature. The chairs currently have a yellow brocade fabric with a floral design that does have some light staining. The chairs have slip seats meaning they can be popped right out the frame and redoing the seats would be a tremendously easy job for an upholsterer and should only cost about $20 a seat after you purchase the fabric. The frames are in excellent condition with our only notes being minor surface wear & light scratching. The chairs measure 21” wide x 20” deep x 38 1/2” tall. The seats measure 19 1/2” wide x 15” deep with an 18” seat height.
