18TH C ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND QUEEN ANNE PUMPKIN PINE BLANKET CHEST WITH 2 DRAWERS
18TH C ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND QUEEN ANNE PUMPKIN PINE BLANKET CHEST WITH 2 DRAWERS
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century Antique Queen Anne pumpkin pine Blanket Chest. Pumpkin pine is not its own species but a trade term used mainly by antique dealers and carpenters to describe New England white pine that has taken on a deep orange patina after hundreds of years. Not all pine will age in this exact manner and it is impossible to tell when the tree is felled whether or not it will. The chest has boot jack ends and two drawers at the base. The original escutcheons and locks are still present but this didn’t come to us with a key. The pulls have been replaced but the box wasn’t re-drilled to accommodate the replacements. Considering the box’s age it’s in very good condition with our only further notes being the lid hinges have been replaced, there’s a restoration to the wood supporting the right hinge, & at one point there was a base molding that was removed. We see these removed all the time and we actually prefer the aesthetic without it but it’s our duty to make note of any little thing we see on inspection. The chest provides ample storage with the inner cavity measuring 38” wide x 15 1/2” deep x 15 1/2” tall. The chest measures 41 1/4” wide x 18” deep x 39” tall.
