18th C Antique New England Queen Anne Black Painted Ladder Back Armchair
18th C Antique New England Queen Anne Black Painted Ladder Back Armchair
Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century antique Queen Anne ladder back arm chair. The chair has a 5 slat back with generously formed bulbous posts with ringlet turnings. This is probably a Massachusetts chair based on the sausage turned stretchers and beehive arms, but we’ve handled a few from Rhode Island & Connecticut so to err on the side of caution we’re just calling this a New England chair. The splint seat was redone some time ago and is in great condition free of any breaks. The middle back slat has been ended out and the chair was originally a few inches taller. It’s not uncommon to see the legs ended out as these chairs are ~250 years old and a lot can happen through the generations. The chair measures 23 1/4” wide x 17” deep x 40 3/4” tall. The seat alone measures 19 1/4” wide between the arms x 15 1/2” deep with a seat height of 11 1/2” tall.
