18th C Antique Hepplewhite New England Pine Table With Serpentine Top
18th C Antique Hepplewhite New England Pine Table With Serpentine Top
With our absolute highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this extremely desirable 18th century antique New England Hepplewhite table. While it may not be as flashy as a Mahogany masterpiece from Boston or Philadelphia this table is an important piece of Early American furniture and was probably made out in our area around Deerfield, Hadley, or Wethersfield. American scalloped top tables like this were first made in Wethersfield and the design later spread North through the CT River Valley and into Eastern CT. We suspect the table was originally painted but there’s no evidence to support our claim. The table is made from old growth, New England Pine that has developed a nice patina over the years. Historic Deerfield, The Five colleges, and local house museums hold the best collections from the area. For our clients who haven’t visited Historic Deerfield, we would highly recommend a visit if you’re a fan of our site. The table is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear, the brass pull is a later addition, & the drawer panel has a replaced board. The Five college collection has a similar table dated CA 1770 and that’s exactly where we have this dated as well. The table measures 22 1/2” wide x 32” deep x 26 1/4” tall.
