18th C Antique Connecticut Chippendale Tall Chest / Dresser
18th C Antique Connecticut Chippendale Tall Chest / Dresser
With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to bring to market this outstanding 18th century antique Connecticut Chippendale chest of drawers. The chest has a total of 12 graduated drawers with molded drawer faces that all actuate with ease and retain their original brass pulls. The chest has dovetailed transitions and dovetails at the top of the case and an impressive dovetailed bracket base. The chest has a very old, possibly original surface that's taken on an extremely desirable patina with a lighter surface around the brasses where the chest was handled most. We've intimately studied Connecticut furniture in public & private collections throughout our area and this is without a doubt one of our favorite tall chests that we've encountered in quite some time. We strongly believe this was made in Litchfield county and have also handled very similar chests from Wethersfield. It's important to remember this chest is roughly 250 years old and a lot can happen in that time and most we encounter have some form of maintenance & repair work. We were absolutely blown away with the condition of this chest & would recommend it to even the most critical collector with our only condition notes being a small loss to the uppermost center brass. The chest measures 40 1/2” wide x 22” deep x 73 1/2” tall.
