18TH C ANTIQUE CONNECTICUT CHERRY CHIPPENDALE 5 DRAWER DRESSER / TALL CHEST
18TH C ANTIQUE CONNECTICUT CHERRY CHIPPENDALE 5 DRAWER DRESSER / TALL CHEST
Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century antique Connecticut Chippendale Cherry tall chest / dresser. We usually have about 6-12 of these in stock but have been having trouble keeping up with the demand. A lot of our clients have or are in the process of moving out of major cities and have suddenly found themselves with 10x the square footage they’re accustomed to. We’ve been steadily replacing our stock but have to pass up on a lot of these because of condition issues. Our patience has certainly paid off and we’re excited to offer this to our clients around the US. When purchasing furniture from a big box chain store it’s important to know almost every major furniture store in the US is experiencing extreme delays from a perfect storm of problems including Covid, material shortages, & logistical delays. Everybody is talking about the couch shortage but it really transcends the entire modern furniture market as the cost of wood has gone up with the building boom and import numbers from China & Vietnam, where most modern furniture is made, are still down from a couple of years ago.
This fine Connecticut chest of drawers is crafted from Cherry & has 5 graduated drawers. The drawers are constructed with hand cut dovetails, hand chamfered New England White Pine bottoms, and all actuate with ease. The chest has a well defined crown and stands on a fantastic tall bracket base with nice scrolling at the sides and a charming carved fan at the center of the base. The chest is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minimal surface wear, an old repair to a foot that we have pictured, and old age splits on the side that are stable and not at risk of expanding. The chest measures 41 1/2” wide at the crown (39 1/8 @ base) x 21” deep (19 3/4 @ base) x 44 3/4” tall.
