With our highest compliments and utmost honors, we’re extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic late 18th / early 19th century antique Chinese Qing Dynasty square altar table. This table has two drawers on one side and one on the other with three panel sides. The drawers have elm secondaries and wonderful etched brass butterfly brasses. Many of these square tables don’t have drawers and most are minimally decorated and not ostentatious. The table has a fantastic red wash surface and pierced thundercloud spandrels. Our passion is American furniture but we try to hold a collection of continental & oriental furniture alongside our American furniture. We really don’t purchase much Chinese furniture but when we saw this in the estate there was no way we were leaving this behind. We purchased this from a Connecticut home from a military family that purchased this in Japan while they were living abroad. The Chinese furniture market has exploded over the last 30 years and these regularly realize 5-10 thousand at auctions all around the country and even more in specialty shops. We are marketing this as an altar table for exposure but this table was meant for the center of a room & in all reality it’s probably closer to a scholars table and is large enough to hold all of the necessities like brushes, brush pots, table screens, etc.. The table measures 35” wide x 35” deep x 35 1/2” tall.
