Antique South Carolina Queen Anne Walnut Tilt Top Table on Snake Legs
Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century antique Queen Anne Southern Walnut tilt top table. Antique tilt-top tables are a type of furniture that were popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. These tables are designed with a single central pedestal and a circular or oval top that can be tilted and locked in place for storage or transportation. The tilt-top design was a practical solution to the problem of limited space in small rooms, as the table could be easily stored in a corner when not in use. These tables were versatile and could be used for a variety of purposes, such as serving tea, folding laundry, gaming, or as a writing surface. The table has a beautiful Walnut top and a finely formed column. The snake legs are well proportioned and are dovetailed into the column and further strengthened by an iron spider. When the top is flipped up the table measures 25” wide x 20” deep x 44” tall. When the top is locked down like in our gallery image the table has a 30 1/4” diameter and stands 27 3/4” tall.
