Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic 19th century antique Mahogany American Empire ogee mirror. Most Empire mirrors don’t warrant our attention, but we especially like this one because of its unusual & rare shape. The mirror retains its original glass with some signs of age, but nothing that obstructs its reflective quality. If the signs of age obstruct use, we can understand replacing the glass, but we always prefer to see some age spots to unequivocally let us know the glass is original. The mirror has a gold painted border around the glass and a crotch Mahogany frame. The finish is very old, likely original, and has developed a desirable alligatoring effect on the outer frame. There are two tiny shrinkage splits on the left side of the mirror about a third of the way up that can be seen in our close-up photo. There’s also a small veneer bubble above the shrinkage splits, but in terms of condition this is as clean as we hope to find them. The mirror measures 19 3/4" wide x 27 3/4" tall x 2" deep. The glass alone measures 11 1/2" wide x 19 1/2" tall.
