Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful set of 5 20th century sack back Windsor chairs. The set was made by S Bent Brothers, a company that was founded in Gardner MA in the mid 1800’s. Gardner carried the moniker of “Chair City” because it was home to a number of different chair manufacturers. Anybody who has visited the city is sure to remember the giant chair. The giant Mahogany chair standing today was created for the bicentennial in 1976 and it is a fun photo op for residents & visitors. This set of 5 chairs has 2 armchairs & 3 side chairs. The hoop backs are free of any breaks and repairs, and these are continuous arm Windsors, which is achieved by steaming and bending the wood. The spindles wax and wane to imitate bamboo reeds and are also free of any breaks and repairs. Bent Brothers' chairs are always solid as a rock and it’s a true testament to just how well they were made. The chairs are nice & comfortable with shaped saddle seats, and they have generous proportions. Antique Windsors are great, but they’re usually much smaller and you have to be mindful not to plop down too hard or put too much stress on the backs. This set will hold up well to everyday use and we would recommend this set for anybody with larger on incautious guests. We photographed these outside against a dark green wall and some of that dark green color was reflected in our photos. These have a black painted surface and are stamped "S Bent Bros" underneath the seats. The side chairs measure 21 3/4” wide x 24” deep (including back) x 41” tall. The seats on the side chairs measure 19 1/2” wide x 16 1/4” deep with a 17 1/2” seat height. The armchairs measure 26” wide x 25” deep (including back) 41 1/2” tall. The seats on the armchairs measure 19 1/2” wide at the narrowest point between the arms x 17 1/4” deep with a 17 1/2” seat height.
