Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century antique Oak desktop file cabinet. The cabinet was manufactured by Brown & Besly of Chicago, and is signed at the base with a gold decal with two bees on it. The cabinet also has a decal at the top reading “THE BESLY CABINET”. The drawer faces and the side panels are decorated with shallow intersecting carvings. The drawers have open backs like many other early filing systems, and the drawers are fitted with a spring mechanism designed to hold your loose papers in place. There aren’t many of these cabinets out in the world which lets us know these weren’t being made in high volume or for an extended time. With a striking resemblance to Amberg, Globe, & Harvard cabinets we suspect they didn’t have the authority to make these and were infringing on somebody else's patent. The cabinet retains its original surface, and the cabinet is in great condition with our only notes being minor surface wear & some light dings in the wood. The drawers have useable dimensions of 11 1/2” wide x 10” deep x 3 1/4” tall. The overall dimensions of the cabinet are 15 3/4” wide x 12 3/4” deep x 12 1/2” tall.
