The slide out writing tray has felt lined reservoirs for inkwells and a pencil \/ pen tray. The brass lion head hardware was a nice step up from the nickel pulls this evidently had. This document box is 16\" wide x 10\" deep x 14\" tall. As we evolved from the earliest carved wood blocks to moveable type printing becomes much more elaborate and requires more specialized tools. Hamilton MFG CO began by making wood type for printing until they noticed a shortage of capable type cabinets needed in a press room in a world where print shops were popping up around the country. This cabinet is decorated with double recessed panel sides with a molded edge. The vertical stiles have an incised carving with a matching carving on the base. Union chair began making \"fancy\" chairs in the middle 19th century and continued production into the 20th century evolving their productions as fashions changed. We believe this set could be late in the 19th century but to heir to caution we'll represent them as early 20th century we have them dated 1900-1910. The gallery employs a nice rounded beveled glass mirror amid acanthus leaf and a central shell carving. The gallery sides are scrolled and triple incised carved. When all the design elements come together it makes a truly exceptional oak medical cabinet with all the bells and whistles. We see these in a varying degree of complexity and this one is a 10\/10. The cabinet has three cut glass interior shelves with the brass Betz co. label centered on the door. The gallery sets this piece right off the charts. This has very handsome crisp acanthus carvings and a beveled center mirror. This cabinet measures 24\" wide x 14 1\/4\" deep x a generous 66 1\/2\" tall.
