20TH CENTURY WILLIAM & MARY ANTIQUE STYLE PAIR OF TIGER MAPLE LADDER BACK ARMCHAIRS
Bay colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful pair of William & Mary / Pilgrim century style Tiger Maple ladder back armchairs. The chairs were made from extremely bold grain Tiger Maple and are finished in a beautiful, warm, orange amber color. These would be perfect for an Early American interior where a vintage reproduction is a better choice than a period chair because a lot of period chairs have been cut down over the years, significantly repaired or altered, or are simply too fragile to actually use. The chairs have a 4 slat back with ringlet & sausage turnings along the stiles and posts, and a ball finial at the top of the stiles. The chairs have cylindrical arms and are nice & sturdy thanks to the double stretchers on each side. The splint seats are woven in a captivating herringbone pattern that creates a nice visual effect. The seats had no problem holding my weight at close to 200 pounds, but we would still strongly recommend using a chair pad or cushion to extend the longevity of the seats. A cushion will help distribute the weight across the grouping of fibers and relieves the pressure off of individual strands. The chairs are in fantastic condition with our only notes being very minimal surface wear. The chairs measure 22" wide x 21 1/4" deep x 47" tall with an 18 1/2" seat height. The seats are generously sized with 18 1/2" of space between the arms x 18 1/2" deep.
