Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 19th century antique Sheraton Cherry four post tester bed. The bed has been expertly lengthened & widened by a few inches to accommodate a full size mattress. The interior measurements are 45 1/4” wide x 76” long between the rails & 55” wide x 76” long on the outside of the rails. To use a full size mattress we would recommend either having a rabbet edge box spring made or you can use a piece of plywood to act as a bunkie board. A rabbet edge box spring is shaped like an uppercase T with the flared ends sitting flush on the rails and the body of the box spring sits between them. The previous owners used a bunkie board which is essentially just a piece of plywood with battens screwed to the bottom so it doesn't move out of place. The posts have very generous proportions and are topped with fantastic urn shaped turnings that accept the tester. The double panel headboard has a nice scrolling pattern and the ends of the top rail have bullseye carvings. Our photos came out a little dark, but the color can best be seen on the close up photos of the headboard and legs. The bed originally accepted a rope foundation and the knobs for the tie offs are still present on the headboard & footboard, but we’re terminated on the side rails when the conversion was done. The bed is easy to assemble and only requires a flat head screwdriver. The overall dimensions of the bed are 55” wide x 84 1/2” deep x 77 1/2” tall.
