Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century Sheraton antique style mahogany sofa. We really don’t handle many sofas because of how much warehousing space they require but there was no way we were leaving this in the estate. This is a superior formed sofa with a curved crest rail that is reed carved with a carved ribbon running up the frame. The sofa has acanthus carved arms with carved bellflowers on the arm panels and carved pinwheels at the corner blocks. The seat rail has fluted carvings with 3 inlaid conch shells on the front edge. The silk damask upholstery is in great condition and is of superior quality. The silk is mainly blue with white stripes and green accents with light dashes of pink in the flowers. The damask on the silk can be best seen in photo #5. There are a few white specks visible in the photos and these are just tiny pieces of Styrofoam that we use to ship things that fell onto the sofa. We've carefully looked over the upholstery with our only condition notes being a slight depression in the back where the silk has stretched a little. This would comfortably fit 3 but could probably seat up to 4. The sofa measures 66" wide x 26" deep x 36 3/4" tall. The seat has a down filled cushion, and the seat alone measures 60" wide x 23" deep with a seat height of 19 1/2" tall. Due to the delicate nature of the legs two of them have old repairs but the restorations were done properly and the sofa is still nice & stable.
