With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to bring to market this fantastic 18th century antique New Hampshire Tiger Maple tambour secretary desk. Tambour desks like this one were mainly produced around Boston, Portsmouth, & Salem. This was likely made somewhere around Salem & Portsmouth but outside of the major cities which gives it it’s country charm. The cabinet maker probably apprenticed in either of the two cities and moved to a smaller town in Western New Hampshire where there wasn’t as much competition in cabinet making. The desk stands on tall flared French feet and has four graduated drawers in the lower case. The upper section has tambour doors that open to reveal an asymmetrical 4 drawer interior that we absolutely adore. The writing surface has a green felt that’s slightly lifting but can easily be replaced or glued back down. The desk is in fantastic condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and one brass knob missing on the right lid support that we’ll have replaced with a period accurate one. The writing surface measures 41 3/4” wide x 14 3/4” deep. The desk measures 45 1/4” wide x 20” deep x 47 1/2” tall.
