18TH CENTURY ANTIQUE CHIPPENDALE 6 BOARD PAINTED BLANKET BOX ~ LATER ARTIST SIGNED PENNSYLVANIA FOLK PAINT
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We're delighted to offer for sale this exceptional 18th century Chippendale period 6 board PA folk art painted blanket box. This is an exceptionally well made 18th century box with a later added PA folk art style painted surface. The box is all dovetail joined, retains the original heart shaped strap hinges, & features a better than most interior with full till and safe drawer. The iron work on the hinges is just spectacular. The heart shaped ends are a nice embellishment not commonly found. Sadly many have been lost to time and replaced with more modern barrel hinges. The box is painted in the Pennsylvania folk style in a deep turqouise color with a vase full of flowers in a golden field. The painting is artist signed "Marianna 1937" on the right vase on the front of the box. At some point in the boxes life the feet were terminated to use as a ground level box. The box measures 36 1/2" wide x 18 1/2" deep x 17" when losed. When the top is fully open the height goes from 17" to 34".
