With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay colony Antiques is extremely proud to present for sale this fantastic 18 century Antique Connecticut River Valley Birds Eye Maple & Tiger Maple sewing stand / worktable. Period sewing stands in this form are very rare and when we do find them they’re almost always Mahogany. We were beyond delighted to encounter this choice example made with a Cherry Top, Tiger Maple legs & sides, and Birds Eye Maple for the front face & drawer. The stand has a lift top with an incised edge that houses a 9 hole interior and access to the curved ends. The Birds Eye Maple used for the front face has extremely bold figuring and creates a nice visual effect with the cross banded Cherry border. The legs have a nice turning pattern with a series of ringlets, a compressed ball turning, & small button feet. The stand has New England White Pine secondaries and is in very good condition with our only notes being a missing knob on the drawer and some age splits on the curved ends. We will ask our restorer to touch up the old putty repair but will leave it up to our end client if they would like the smaller age splits filled or not. We'd recommend leaving the stand as undisturbed as possible but understand certain interiors call for a more polished look. The stand measures 28” wide x 13 1/2” deep x 28 1/4” tall. When the lid is fully open the height is 41 1/4” tall.
