Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this exceptional early 19th century antique New York Classical Mahogany drop leaf dining table. The table is crafted from the absolute best grade of Caribbean mahogany with an attractive grain pattern and strong luster. The table has a rectangular top with shaped leaves and a crotch mahogany decorated apron. The pedestal is absolutely massive and heavily carved with stylized acanthus leaves and cross hatch carvings. The table has 4 finely carved lion paw feet with carved nails, acanthus leaf carvings, & a superbly carved cornucopia design where the legs meet the pedestal. This cornucopia design, or horn of plenty, is exceptionally rare and well executed and was probably a special request by the original buyer to allude to his/her opulence. The table is in fantastic condition with our only notes being a small loss near one of the hinges at the rule joint and some light scratching and surface wear on the table but nothing that would warrant a refinishing in our opinion. We’re always in the market for good breakfast tables like this and have placed about a dozen or so in homes this year alone. A couple of the tables we sold had more heavily carved legs but we think this is the most impressive pedestal of all the tables we’ve handled this year. The table measures 23” wide x 42” long x 27 1/2” tall. When the leaves are locked up the width changes from 23” to 51” wide.
