Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique Victorian cast iron umbrella stand. The stand has a charming romantic scene depicting Scottish poet Robert Burns courting Mary Campbell. The song has inspired multiple paintings and sculptures and we think it’s quite odd that we haven’t encountered one of these before. Surely they were probably cast by the hundreds until the molds warped but they’re by no means common. Contrary to popular belief, cast iron can actually break quite easily. A lot of these probably just didn’t survive or were melted down in times of scarcity like during the iron drives to make steel for World War 2. The stand has Scottish thistles at the base and at the handle. The stand measures 15” wide x 8 1/2” deep x 30 1/2” tall.
