It is wonderfully accented by its original back gallery with turned rosettes. Possessing all of its original hand chamfered pine secondary panels it has all its locks and original wooden knobs pulls. Most of these were later rebrassed as imported English brasses that became available again to the trading port of Salem Mass. While we certainly do not look down upon good 18th century Georgian mahogany chest on chests they have a market cap.  We are bringing this onto the market priced correctly in what a fine English chest should be. This chest is a concurrently rare Six over One drawer formatted configuration. Boldly defined with wonderful presence grace \u0026amp; simply the best dental carved crown with cock beaded graduated drawers carved quarter columns, original brasses with locks \u0026amp; working key. Rare in itself speaking to how well it was owned. When we received this we immediately sent it to our expert restorer for to re-brace the secondary chamfered back panels to its frame. The work performed was amazing using all proud wooden peg joinery. 250 year old case pieces are subject to pine secondary woods deterioration. It employs almost extinct Yew woods and nicely hand chamfered drawer panels. This highboy is entirely made from old growth Cuban mahogany. The drawer actions are all smooth and correct evidenced in its maintenance and gentle caring with each cases glue blocks still in tact. This sideboard is in the Hepplewhite style with the best cuts of bookmatched flame mahogany reserved for the drawer faces. Each drawer is accented with a holly string inlay with ovolu cut out corners. The polished brass drawer pulls are also decorate with sunburst designs on the backplates. The wooden gallery contains a large center drawer with a turned brass gallery complete with plinths with urns.The upper cutlery drawers are felt lined with a tasteful wine colored felt for safely housing fine silver. The lower left drawer gives the appearance of two drawers however uses a faux face to cleveryly disguise a double size storage drawer. We believe this chest was made in or around Springfield, Massachusetts CA 1810 probably by the hand of the highest shops in the area possibly Pelatiah Bliss or William LLoyd's work. Cherry wood was abundant in the area and the close proximity to Boston and trade cities along the Connecticut River explains the scarce yet highly desirable mahogany veneers being used in the area. We're very partial to rare and unusual desks made outside of major metropolitan cities. The major cabinet making cities we're very prolific where a smaller western MA shop would create a fraction of the commissioned work a NYC or Boston shop would. This desk is 42 1\/4\" wide x 21 1\/2\" deep x 43\" tall. When the writing surface is flipped down the work surface height is 32\" tall. This desk is in its correct and true original surface with only the most minute condition flaws. We note the second drawer is missing it's interior lock and a very small veneer shrinkage on the butlers drawer wholly age appropriate with the exotic 200+ year old wood in a foreign climate. The lid and base moldings are quite elaborate, the chest terminates in turned ball feet. The interior is fitted with a lift top candle till and a generous storage cavity. This chest is made of old growth southern walnut with tulip poplar secondaries, a species abundant in the southern US. This is all pegged construction with recessed paneled sides, a molded top, and decorative fruit wood escutcheon inlay. The drawer bottoms are hand chamfered poplar exactly what you'd expect to see from this region and time. The hand cut dovetailed drawers retain their original iron locks. This did not come to us with a key however most locksmiths can easily cut antique keys. The paneled swinging door had the lock removed and plugged in the correct fashion. The chest stands 21\" tall on spool feet, measures 28 3\/4\" wide x 13 1\/2\" deep. This is a nice, old, correct and true Victorian cabinet. We have it dated 1870-1880. This example is fitted with a mirrored bottom and three cut glass shelves. The beveled glass sides (side lights) are a very nice addition to the recessed panel sides. The gallery employs a nice rounded beveled glass mirror amid acanthus leaf and a central shell carving. The gallery sides are scrolled and triple incised carved. When all the design elements come together it makes a truly exceptional oak medical cabinet with all the bells and whistles. We see these in a varying degree of complexity and this one is a 10\/10. We chose to include our natural light photos along with our professionally done ones. We didn't want the beauty of the glass to be lost in translation. Began in the early 20th century in Hammond, Indiana humbly stating \"This company was started in a coal shed 19 years ago\" in an early advert. \"We manufacture or import everything that the physician needs for his office or the largest equipment for the modern hospital.\" The firm was so successful subsequent sales offices were opened in Chicago and New York City. Betzco offered everything from electro-therapy kits to cutting edge cabinetry such as this. This cabinet has three molded drawers decorated with original floral pulls. The large central door retains it's original brass escutcheon plate and key. The sidelights are a nice feature complimenting the recessed panel sides. The cabinet has three cut glass interior shelves with the brass Betz co. label centered on the door. The gallery sets this piece right off the charts. This has very handsome crisp acanthus carvings and a beveled center mirror. This cabinet measures 24\" wide x 14 1\/4\" deep x a generous 66 1\/2\" tall.
