Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic Chippendale antique style Tiger Maple blanket chest. The chest was made from extremely bold grain Tiger Maple and was finished in a beautiful Amber color. The chest has two drawers fitted with Chippendale batwing pulls & they were constructed in the period manner with hand cut dovetails and chamfered panels. The horizontal transition between the drawers is also dovetailed into the case and there’s another set of exposed dovetails that can be seen on the back of the bracket feet.
When we first saw the chest, we immediately started wondering who could have made it. Thankfully that question wasn’t left unanswered and we weren’t the least bit surprised when we saw Curt Brown's signature & label. We've had the pleasure of handling a few of Brown’s pieces throughout our careers & they’re every ounce the quality of any of Eldred Wheeler or D.R. Dimes' fabulous quality pieces. We love the diminutive scale of the chest and think it would be perfect along the footboard of a rope bed. The blanket chest is in very good condition with our only notes being minimal surface wear. The chest measures 38 1/2” wide x 18 1/2” deep x 20” tall.
