18TH CENTURY ANTIQUE PENNSYLVANIA POPLAR CHIPPENDALE PEWTER CUPBOARD / CABINET

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this exceptional 18th century antique Pennsylvania Poplar pewter cabinet. The cabinet has a complex molded crown with a carved frieze underneath. The cabinet has a large upper compartment complete with plate racks & utensil slots. It’s rare to find these with enclosed upper cabinets as most were built with open backs. The glass is all original with nice rippling and seeding present that add to the charm of the piece. There’s one small hairline crack in the corner of the middle left window that could be replaced but we would recommend leaving as is. The lower portion has 3 drawers, over 2 paneled doors with a spacious interior. A lot of 18th century families didn’t own many dishes and even fewer owned specialized cabinets to house them. The cabinet has an old railway tag from the 1930’s showing this was sent to Owigsburg, PA on rail car. The cabinet was likely made right around that area in Philadelphia County and is a wonderful example of top tier cabinet work from the areas earliest German settlers. The cabinet measures 58 1/2" wide (52" at base) x 21" deep x 79 1/2" tall.
