We see every thing worth seeing moving from New England to the Southern US & Back out to the Ohio River Valley. These are very seldom encountered and even much rarer in this particular format. This handsome chests interior possesses a teak frame that clearly identifies its origin to the Ducth West Indies which was England's major trading outpost for the new world. It speaks to the educated important period furniture collector that it is not the typical English 18th century case piece. While we certainly do not look down upon good 18th century Georgian mahogany chest on chests they have a market cap. We are bringing this onto the market priced correctly in what a fine English chest should be. This chest is a concurrently rare Six over One drawer formatted configuration. Boldly defined with wonderful presence grace & simply the best dental carved crown with cock beaded graduated drawers carved quarter columns, original brasses with locks & working key. Rare in itself speaking to how well it was owned. When we received this we immediately sent it to our expert restorer for to re-brace the secondary chamfered back panels to its frame. The work performed was amazing using all proud wooden peg joinery. 250 year old case pieces are subject to pine secondary woods deterioration. It employs almost extinct Yew woods and nicely hand chamfered drawer panels. This highboy is entirely made from old growth Cuban mahogany. The drawer actions are all smooth and correct evidenced in its maintenance and gentle caring with each cases glue blocks still in tact. Rosewood has long been used as a decorative / elusive hardwood in cabinet making by many well renowned Victorian cabinet makers. The finest rosewood in the late 19th century was being imported from Brazil, Jamaica, and Honduras. Given the long and tumultuous journey the raw lumber had to endure, rosewood was highly coveted by cabinet makers and would fetch a steep sum at port when stockpiles were available. With the demand highly exceeding the supply a rosewood parlor table quickly became a status symbol of families of the late 19th century. Demand further expanded and protectionist measures were enacted to curb the damaging effects of the timber trade. Rosewood of this quality is simply not available in today's market!

We believe this table was made in NYC. Examining the scarcity of the wood we concluded this was made in or close to a major port city. NYC had fabulous cabinet makers working in the same area and style with families who had the means to comission a table of such quality. The table box is carved with acanthus leaves surrounding the entire skirt and impressive carvings. The cabriolet legs show good proportions and are further embellished with additional acanthus carvings. The molded edge of the horizontal base stretcher is a nice little touch showing care in the most minutia of details. The marble top is 100% correct and free of flaws. We simply DO NOT offer items with major flaws or defects. Our customers desire the best and that is what we strive to bring you. This is a very important item of American Pa Dutch history from the forges that won our American independence. A sugar chest is always a staple of southern US furniture collectors. When we're lucky enough to procure one they're usually snapped up very quickly. Spices and other valuables were revered and kept locked tight in a chest such as this. This chest is made of old growth southern walnut with tulip poplar secondaries, a species abundant in the southern US. This is all pegged construction with recessed paneled sides, a molded top, and decorative fruit wood escutcheon inlay. The drawer bottoms are hand chamfered poplar exactly what you'd expect to see from this region and time. The hand cut dovetailed drawers retain their original iron locks. This did not come to us with a key however most locksmiths can easily cut antique keys. The paneled swinging door had the lock removed and plugged in the correct fashion. Southern US walnut is an abundant and attractive species long revered in early American cabinetry. With our highest regards we present to you this wonderful and rare early 19th century southern US Federal period walnut butlers desks with the best carvings. The desk has a large central drop front butlers section fitted with 6 mahogany veneer drawers and scrolled pigeon holes. The butlers section is flanked on either side by wonderful crisp geometric carved swags. The horizontal transition is tendril leaf carved an elusive southern embellishment. This caused somewhat of a family dispute trying to pinpoint where this was made. We feel this is most likely a Virginia made chest. The chest is dated 1830 under an interior drawer and again concealed behind a leg block. This is a very rare specimen from the American Classical period's influence on furniture in America during 1820-1830's. It has a partial makers label on the back panel identifying as being made on "Middagh Street in Brooklyn, NY." (First name) "J" and last name "R". The rest of the label is missing meaning before we got it it had only been moved once or twice in the last 2 centuries! We instantly knew we were looking at an exceedingly rare case piece of extraordinary quality from the very moment we saw it. It has heavily carved swags on both right & left top panels over Corinthian Capitals on gracefully formed right & left flanking columns. This is an overhung chest formatted with 2 over 3 drawers. The right & left top drawers are accented by cross banded inlay. Both the right & left sides of the case possess recessed panels. The chest stands on turned legs terminating in compact ball feet. It pre-dates records on the furniture makers situated in Brooklyn. If it were Boston we could tell you who made it and when. We are authorities on the works of the New York City shops of Duncan Phyfe, William Sylvester and the Allison brothers. We instantly ruled them out even before finding the partial label. These are off the truck prerestoraion photos. All the nips have been take out. You are looking at straight off the truck photos. We would like to have every small issue addressed prior to listing a piece. We are running a very large shop dealing with over a few thousand pieces each year. We have to prioritize our wood workers time by addressing pieces with the most priority given to them by when they are sold or sent off to one of the Important American Furniture events we participate in each year. Massachusetts furniture has always been very dear to our hearts, it's where we grew up. This important late 18th century sheraton game table is crafted in the best cuban mahogany one could find at the time. Cuban and Santo Domingan mahogany is no longer available for sale anywhere in the world. We're left with simpler tight grain woods many new age furniture stores sell as "Mahogany" but there's a BIG difference. Exotic woods that had to be imported were very expensive and increased in price as you move away from large port cities and trade centers. There's a very strong rare fiddleback grain running throughout the top of this example.

The incised table top and box show a very sophisticated piece executed with masterful attention to detail. We believe this was created by renowned NYC cabinet maker Duncan Phyfe or one of his close contemporaries. There's a very short list of shops with the means and skills to create such a stand that worked in such a high classical style. Rarely are Phyfe pieces found with an attached label, the quality of the neoclassical work was his calling card. This masterful work was clearly a labor of love where no expense was spared.

This cache pot is crafted in mahogany with a very pretty desirable flame mahogany veneer being used at the base. The slender molded legs show a refined planned out elegance and a true understanding of cabinet making dynamics and execution. The stand sits upon a three legged talon foot base with some of the best, crisp, detailed carvings. The talon foot grasps a compressed ball with might and intent. The legs are further accented with carved acanthus leaves terminating in Grecian scrolls. The body of the vessel is highly carved with classical Greek keys, highly detailed acanthus leaves, and a wonderful relief carved scallop. The cache pot retains it's original tin liner which can be removed with ease.

This is without a question one of the rarest and fine period classical furnishings being offered in the country. We traverse the United States looking for treasures such as this and they simply don't surface. The few examples that do remain are snapped up by institutions or astute collectors quickly. The stand is in it's original finish with only the most minor of yellowing finish at the base but we'll take that every day of the week over a refinished example. The 200+ year old exotic wood shows small shrinkage lines as expected with the age and foreign climate. We wholeheartedly believe these condition matters are minutia when examining the importance of this piece however we practice a 100% disclosure of anything we note no matter how small or inconsequential they may be. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We're delighted to offer for sale this spectacular 19th century tiger oak Victorian physicians / medical cabinet. We acquired this recently from a lovely Greenwich CT estate where it housed one of the most significant medical collections we've had the pleasure of seeing in quite some time. This is a nice, old, correct and true Victorian cabinet. We have it dated 1870-1880. We value originality above all and DO NOT sell items with major flaws or defects.

This cabinet has three incised carved drawers each retaining their original embossed brass pulls and decorative escutcheons. This example is fitted with a mirrored bottom and three cut glass shelves. The beveled glass sides (side lights) are a very nice addition to the recessed panel sides. The gallery employs a nice rounded beveled glass mirror amid acanthus leaf and a central shell carving. The gallery sides are scrolled and triple incised carved. When all the design elements come together it makes a truly exceptional oak medical cabinet with all the bells and whistles. We see these in a varying degree of complexity and this one is a 10/10. We chose to include our natural light photos along with our professionally done ones. We didn't want the beauty of the glass to be lost in translation. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

We proudly present for sale this early 19th century mahogany cheval dressing mirror in the high classical / french empire manner. The mirror stands atop 4 carved rolled french feet with water leaf carvings directly above. There's a very attractive turtle shaped base with a thick heavy gauge mahogany molded edge. This mirror is made of highly coveted Santo Domingan Mahogany. This older species was farmed to near extinction with only tiny quantities surviving under well deserved protectionist measures. The relativity to the equator and mineral deposits in the area gave the imported island timber a rich oil content resulting in a lustrous glow not found in modern day woods sold as "mahogany". The vertical stiles supporting the mirror are also carved and transition cleanly to their rolled ends. The mounting mechanism is cleanly mounted within the harps which is nice if you don't like the bolts that usually attach cheval mirrors. This mirror retains it's original old glass with the most minimal signs of age appropriate wear. Please note this design was continued well into the Victorian era it's one of the most desirable French Empire forms. An astute eye can clearly see the superior more complex earlier examples such as this one. When you have both side by side the difference is unquestionable. This mirror is 32" wide x 19 3/4" deep x 63 1/4" tall. Items will require packaging and palletizing for freight shipments. The buyer is responsible for the cost of materials only for this service. We perform this service without the cost of labor as an appreciation for your patronage. Freight class shipping is the fastest and most cost effective method of shipping large items. We can reach anywhere in America with a large shipment within 7-10 business days. We buy materials in bulk to save you excessive costs. The materials required for proper crating of items for their safe transit is so specialized we may need up to 7-10 business days to make sure we get absolutely what is required & do the best job possible. This and our “volume shippers” discount creates a substantial lower cost for you. The least expensive method of shipping is business to business with loading docks. Next is a business without a dock and the last option is shipping to a resident. We are sending your shipments with freight carriers. They are not furniture movers who bring the items into your home. You are provided with curbside delivery of your shipments. We urge all customers to obtain special coverage and protection for their freight class shipments provided through our Freight Broker’s independent third party insurance coverage provider. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

With our highest regards we proudly present for sale this early 19th century mahogany 3 drawer classical work table / sewing stand by renowned Boston cabinet maker Isaac Vose with carvings attributed to Thomas Wightman. Boston furniture heavily relies on use of grain and this table employs the best available. This table is crafted from Santo Domingan mahogany, one of the most expensive imported timbers available for sale at the time. The proximity to the equator and elements found in the area give the wood a special oil density which results in a lustrous glow not found in today's "mahogany". Being a major early US port city Boston would reap the benefits of an active port where a number of high grade goods would pass through. By the turn of the 19th century Boston had over 50 cabinet making shops.

Isaac Vose first appeared in tax records as early as 1790. In 1806 he partnered with his journeyman Joshua Coates. The duo spent over 10 years together until Mr. Coates met his untimely end by being thrown out of a carriage. The business was continued by Isaac Vose and his son Isaac Vose Jr. Records show Boston's most highly accomplished cabinet maker, John Seymour, spent time with Vose's shop after his shop closed in his old age. An early periodical advert dated March 1824 states "Their cabinet manufactory is under the direction of Mr. Thomas Seymour, and all orders for furniture will receive as good attention heretofore." We find it interesting that Seymour aided the emerging craftsman Vose. We see this as a passing of the flame to a new generation of preeminent cabinet makers.
This sewing stand has three drawers with their original wooden pulls and a cock bead molded face. The drawers are all hand dovetailed with hand chamfered bottoms. This came to us missing the tapered silk bag that should be on the third drawer. We have an upholster who fabricates them at an exceptional quality. We're going to have the work done with a tasteful silk fabric and adjust the price accordingly thereafter. If you purchase this before we are able to have it made you'll get the freedom of picking the color / design or to have it made on your own accord.

The table box is supported by two heavily carved lyre shaped mahogany sides. These show the utmost care in proportions and execution coming together in a masterful harmony. The panels are carved with graduating acanthus leafs with punch carved stars. We note very minimal age expected veneer loss on the base we will have addressed by our expert woodworker. We note any defect we come across no matter how small or inconsequential they may be. Very few signed Vose tables have been discovered. We know of about 5 and they're all in world class institutions. Much of what we know of Vose's work is still being uncovered today through old historical records and further examination. A cabinet maker on this caliber didn't need to sign his work, the craftsmanship and superior design was their calling card. This table stands on 4 expertly carved hairy paw feet. The attention to detail and masterful carving further our strong belief this is a genuine Vose table with Thomas Wightman's superior carvings. We note a very old small age split on the top that was stabilized in the correct fashion. The stand measures 18 1/2" wide x 16 1/2" deep x 29 1/2" tall. When the leaves are locked up with the swinging wooden shuttles the table measures 35 1/2" wide.

WELCOME

Our warehousing facility located at 190 Chestnut St. Springfield, MA. 01105

Convenient downtown location just minutes away from I-91 and I-90 Masspike.

Open by appointment.

Please Read

We are a wholly owned family business in our third decade of continuous operation. We go the extra mile by designing premium customized furniture crates for the ultimate protection of your purchase. We ship from our facility with a loading dock on a major trucking artery. It has well defined & identifying with bell flower carved posts further defined by rope carvings. This is standard 3/4" bed with its original rails & pine scrolled headboard. It is an ideal and perfect bed to easily convert to queen or king sizes. We wanted to offer this first to the purists who want it left alone. We can easliy addapt this to full sized with custom bedding as it was when we obtained it. Should you desire its conversion in size just let us know and we will discuss this option with our woodworker. It would only require a new headboard cut and extensions of the rails. The value of period beds is in their tall carved posts and these are absolutely killers. The bed is made out of birch with an original mahogany finish. These are known as "mahoganized" pieces most often employed from Salem Massachusetts through the coastal port cities of Maine. The bed is fastened with French bolts and has very rare an unusual period bed slat holders made from heavy decorative metal. We received it without bed bolt covers & noting the posts were one altered to get the bed out of or into a space with drastic size limits. Our woodworker will be cleaning up these old restorations & you are looking at off the truck photos. The bed completely breaks down into into components. It uses mahogany in the bell flower ornamentation. It is 76" long and 57 1/2" overall with it being 76 1/2" X 52 1/2" between the rails. The lamp has new wiring and no condition issues whatsoever other than some slight normal wear on the base brass ring. This lamp has a 17 1/2" wide shade and is approximately 22" tall. Undoubtedly the best known American western "outlaw" and iconic image of the west. This has never been offered to anyone but us before this. We obtained it concealed behind a mirror's frame from a very old St. Joseph Missouri estate sent back east for liquidation of its antiques collection. No one but its late owner knew it was there prior to our discovery. We believe it to be a portrait done by an itinerant Missouri artist who viewed his remains after his assassination or from fresh photographic image. We theorize that James meant a great deal to its original owner and its concealment behind the mirror was for his/her's own personal reasons and to protect him/her against reprisals by Jame's numerous enemies in the then Missouri Government. The James family consisting of women & children had been intentionally brutalized by cowardly Union Troops waging war of James. The mirror frame was an exact size to the portrait. That's a bit more then purely coincidence. Countless reproduced photographic images of James exist but this we know from extensive research is an absolutely one of kind piece. The artist captures James in a peaceful respectful manner. Some "experts" have viewed it and believe it to be James prior to his death. We can not prove that so we make no such representation. Should that indeed be the case its value becomes priceless. We have had this portrait re-framed & glassed in a very high framed and restored by our art restorer. At its very top center the very well oxidized 19th century paper was missing a piece measuring approximately 2" X 3/4". Our restorer backed it with a paper he colored to exactly match it. (see photos) We did not want the integrity of the portrait touched in anyway. It has no other stains, foxing or damages. It is in a 21 3/4" X 19 3/4" frame and its sight size is 16" X 14 1/2".

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0029/1884/2435/products/57_1098e528-8ffb-4bf3-a675-f1d5edf62855.jpg?v=1571610639
important-18th-century-queen-anne-period-walnut-spice-chest-with-tombstone-door
IMPORTANT 18TH CENTURY QUEEN ANNE PERIOD WALNUT SPICE CHEST WITH TOMBSTONE DOOR

HIGHLY IMPORTANT 18TH CENTURY QUEEN ANNE PERIOD WALNUT PENNSYLVANIA SPICE CHEST

Bay Colony Antiques take the most exceptional honor in offering you one of the very finest American Spice Chests in the world. A bold statement indeed but we pay extraordinarily close attention to every major American Furniture & Decorative Arts event that has transpired over the last 40 years. We possess one of the best research libraries in America that we have painstakingly assembled over our collective careers. We simply wouldn't make a statement we know to be incorrect. This spice chest descended through the Andrew & Jane Adams family of Pennsylvania. We were told that the Adams originally come from York but have received information from individuals claiming to be Adam's descendants that tell us these Adams came from Cheshire County, Pa. It employs the typically unique overbuilt construction of Queen Anne period case pieces from these regions of Pa. It has a very nicely fitted Nine drawer interior, exceptionally well carved tombstone door, original lock, carved quarter columns and pronounced crown. We note (and this has gotten past numerous experts) it possesses an expertly restored ogee bracket footed base. Almost every true Spice Chest we have encountered has this same restoration. These are 50 pound chests standing on relatively delicate legs that simply came off & lost over the last 275 years. Note the last 2 sold by Skinners in Massachusetts each realizing over $20,000 in recent history with an additional 25 % buyers premium on top of that base sale price. We obtained this through a Harrisburg area collector in a trade for some key items from our private collection. Many would argue its too powerful for eBay & we disagree having met some incredibly knowledgeable collectors right here. These days every major antique operation is selling via internet based platforms. Instead of using several for our own internet based offerings we focus our attention right here where each buyer & sellers enjoys a real sense of security. The party we obtained this form paid $50,000 for it in the late 1970's. As we are all painfully aware our currency no longer retains anywhere near that value. This individual purchased it through the Bradford family and it was found in one of their properties barns Circa 1910 located at Camp Hill. It was restored then and the work is a century old. Other than that we noted a tiny almost invisible splice on the top of the front edge of the lase. Its approximately 1/8' on an inch in thickness. The chest was no doubt knocked over in its century stay in a barn and the crest took a small ding that was addressed. We are now its 3rd owner since it was unearthed. The case is entirely dovetailed joined. It employs poplar secondary woods. Everything else is correct and original. In its center drawer it is inscribed "AA & JA" on each sides of that drawer. We will be delighted to document its provenance as we have received it. We sold several 100 items of the Bradford family collection about 3 years ago through our auction sales. We mention this as our compass of certainty as to its real history. Any true spice chest of this tier still realizes over 20k in the correct auction sale setting. We have put a true far below market valued price on this chest representing our investment in the items we exchanged it for. We love Pa period pieces but our passions lay in period Boston & Connecticut River Valley furniture. We have a lovely woman reserving a very important highboy for us that we desire more. We like to imagine the conversations our forefathers might have had playing a friendly game. Traditional Bagatelle tables are made with a slate or mahogany bed cushioned and lined with felt. We are some of the most aggressive furniture buyers in the country and seldom get a run at these, they simply don't surface. This is an outstanding Circa 1790's desk with a dovetailed joined case, original finish, original brasses, cherry sides, solid Bird's Eye with transitioning tiger maple right and left columns that flow down to its vasal legs and compact ball feet. The desk has a very nice interior with 8 cubbies over 4 privacy drawers with valance moldings and a flip out writing desk supported by loafers. The secondary woods are old growth single plank native New England red pine. We note the left side door of the interior of the secretary has a old burn on it from a candle. Truly not an issue at all on a cabinet of this age but it's our responsibility to disclose any "defects" no matter how inconsequential they may be. Please take a moment to review in the photos. This linen press is an absolute case study in early joinery and construction. The paneled doors are hand chamfered with tenoned and pegged joints. They open to reveal two interior shelves which could easily be removed if you require to use this at it's full storage capacity. This is without a question one of the best English Linen presses being offered anywhere for sale in the country. For every example we find in yew we'll find 10 Mahogany examples making this in our eyes more desirable and scarce. We've been bothered by not having a great American linen press for sale for quite some time. These are very desirable cabinets with a multitude of uses that don't surface much. We have the pleasure of handling a good half dozen or so English ones a year but the American ones are locked away in private collections & institutions and when they do surface they regularly realize 10k+ at any prominent auction service. We thought about sending this off because it's so rare and fantastic but we really do want to offer the best to solely our clients. This is a New York City example with a commanding presence executed to perfection.

This linen press is crafted from the best most select cuts of Santo Domingan mahogany. Santo Domingan & Cuban mahogany is the best in the world with a special oil density that gives it it's lustrous sheen & durability. These exotic woods were imported to the United States in the 18th century in major port cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia etc. High end cabinet shops in these major cities had the skills and clientele and would purchase the best cuts of mahogany at a steep sum. We've had our hands on private ledgers from the 18th century and it's fascinating to see our favorite cabinet makers go to market and buy their supplies. The cabinet has two amazing hand chamfered single panel flame mahogany blank doors with exceptional use of grain. Above the doors there are book matched crotch mahogany panels below the crown molding. This linen press has a key and original lock still intact. When the blank doors open they reveal 4 sliding open half drawers all dovetailed that actuate with ease. This linen press is an absolute premiere example of New York City cabinetry. The linen press has 4 graduate cock bead molded drawers crafted from concurrent cuts of book matched mahogany. The drawers are decorated with 8 magnificent cast brass lion head pulls and every drawer retains their original escutcheon & lock. The upper most drawer is compartmentalized. We reached our photo limit of 12 but would be happy to furnish you with any additional ones you may need. The linen press stands on a finely formed molded bracket base with a wonderful decorative cut out pattern. Make sure to check out the back of the piece as well, it shows the construction further and is rich with oxidation, scribe marks, and joinery. We're excited to offer this rare piece of American furniture to our clients. Over the last month we've been turning over 3/4 estates a week. We're bringing in such a high volume of high quality antiques and are in the process of having them ready to be offered. Those who know us and have followed us through the years understand the time and financial commitment needed to represent the best merchandise on the market. We're happy to do so and will continue to offer fresh to market, investment grade, better - best antiques daily. From a coastal Greek Revival Rhode Island home this mirror is estate fresh and in wonderful condition. This is a large scale mirror measuring 28 1/4" wide x 57 1/2" tall! The upper part of the crown is decorated with carved water leafs, acanthus leaves & a geometrical bead carvings. The mirror has two amazing lion rosettes along the upper blocks. The mirror has fluted columns along the vertical stiles terminating in 3D acanthus gesso carvings. The lower blocks have additional floral rosettes. Our favorite decoration on the mirror is along the lower horizontal rail. This is a guilloche carving popular among many classical civilizations. During the classical period new discoveries such as Pompeii were a novel wonder to the world and the rediscovered timeless designs gained popularity in architecture and cabinet making in the 19th century.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0029/1884/2435/products/57_e52bcea8-2f69-492c-9715-856024fe59b8.jpg?v=1571610654
19th-c-tiger-maple-chippendale-serpentine-antique-dresser-bachelors-chest
19TH C TIGER MAPLE CHIPPENDALE SERPENTINE ANTIQUE DRESSER / BACHELORS CHEST

ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY TIGER MAPLE 4 DRAWER SERPENTINE FRONT BACHELORS CHEST / DRESSER

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. This is without a doubt one of the finest pieces of case furniture we've had the pleasure of offering for quite some time. This is a 19th century chest we believe was made around the centennial celebration. As the centennial celebration approached and was enjoyed there was a vast revisiting of arts & design from America's "Golden Age" 100 years prior.

This chest is crafted from the most select cuts of tiger maple generally reserved for instrument making. We probably handle more tiger maple furniture than anybody in the country. We regularly have great custom and more modern tiger maple furniture in stock but 18th & 19th century case pieces are rare to say the least. Most times we have a client for these before they even get in the door but this is a rare time we get to offer this to all of our clients. If this were made slightly earlier we would have sent this off to any important early American sale where chests of this form regularly hammer down past 5 figures. This chest was probably made around 1810-1840. We've made sure to show all construction and the back and bottom. At the very latest this would be a centennial chest but we strongly feel this is early 19th century. We contemplated doing the same with this but after selling commissions we'd probably end up close to our asking costs. We want to continue to push the envelope with offering more investment grade antiques on this sales platform. We've met so many wonderful people here and try to reserve the absolute best for our personal clients. This is a classic Massachusetts form with a wonderfully executed serpentine front and molded overhung serpentine top. The chest has absolutely wonderful scrolling and cut out patterns along the base. The tiger maple used in this chest is top tier finished in a golden amber color. The drawers are constructed with hand cut dovetails and hand chamfered New England pine secondaries. Each drawer is decorated with Chippendale bat wing brasses and escutcheon plates. The top two drawers retain their original locks, the bottom two drawers never had locks. This chest is in such pristine condition with the only thing we can note being a small seasoning split on the top. This is stable and at no risk of spreading. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

With our highest compliments and honors we're delighted to offer for sale this absolutely wonderful 84 drawer primitive style apothecary / general store make-do cabinet in original federal blue milk paint. In a primitive market absolutely saturated with reproduction and fake antiques this cabinet is the sweetest breath of fresh air. We believe this is a late 19th century cabinet but to heir to caution it could easily be early 20th century CA 1910. From a coastal Connecticut home this estate fresh apothecary has 84 drawers. The owner said this was wall mounted in a general store which makes sense as we start looking at the construction. We use the term make-do for cabinets as these where a need was present and the object was crafted with what was available. Examining the drawer bottoms they're constructed of various wood stock from boxes you'd find in a general store ranging from imported tobacco to petroleum products and many other house hold brands. The cabinet is finished with a very charming original federal blue milk paint with great wear patterns from a long cherished life of past use. In a sophisticated cabinet shop pre planned designs are executed and it's not uncommon to see identical objects from the same maker. That's one of our favorite thing when dealing with country primitives. Every piece is unique and tells a story. We've been busy handling estates all up and down the east coast. We have access to the finest antiques brought to market and choose to be very selective in our offerings. We could easily send this to a New England auction house and be handsomely paid but we want the best being offered to only OUR clients and proud to do so. We meet wonderful collectors every day as we furnish homes across the US. This is without a doubt one of the best primitives we've had in quite some time.The plywood mounted on the back is obviously a later addition we assume the past owner did to wall mount the cabinet. We will have this corrected by our woodworker replaced with correct old stock boards. This cabinet measures 32" wide x 5" deep x 46" tall.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0029/1884/2435/products/57_6b64f18e-0066-478b-b359-8ef8d9d7304c.jpg?v=1571610655
early-20th-c-antique-signed-rainaud-slag-glass-panel-lamp-japanese-garden-scene
EARLY 20TH C ANTIQUE SIGNED RAINAUD SLAG GLASS PANEL LAMP ~JAPANESE GARDEN SCENE

EARLY 20TH CENTURY CARAMEL & AQUAMARINE SIGNED RAINAUD SLAG GLASS LAMP ~~ JAPANESE GARDEN SCENE

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

With our highest compliments and honor we're proud to offer for sale this magnificent early 20th century signed Rainaud 6 panel slag glass lamp with fire gilt floral Art Nouveau base and Japanese garden scene shade. Rainaud lamps were made in Meriden Connecticut, alongside others such as Handel, Bradley & Hubbard, and Miller. The United states wasn't fully electrified until the 1930's. Superseding this time electric lamps & lighting were reserved for the wealthier families. Lamp makers recognized this and began making lesser toned down versions everyday people could afford. This is the reason why every Handel isn't worth 5k. This lamp is much nicer than any Rainaud we've seen on the market. Once the company moved towards more mass produced lamps they started branding them "RAINAUD". This lamp is signed under the base with a stylized "R" we believe to be one of his earliest marks. The base is fire gilt in a process that affixes a small amount of gold to the metal giving it it's luster. The lamp has an overall faux bamboo ornamentation with lilly flower and exotic vegetation. The shade depicts a tranquil Japanese garden scene with cranes, arbor, and a footbridge over water. Caramel or amber glass are the most frequently used shade in lamp making. Miller put it simply, "It's the easiest on the eye and best for reading."The 6 caramel slag glass panels make up the sky with 6 lovely aquamarine sunset panels for the water. There's an extensive use of embossed metals & filigree to create a wonderful Japanese garden scene. The lamp is 25" tall with a diameter of 17.5" at the shade.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0029/1884/2435/products/57_7f940c25-b9ad-4f0f-9dd2-7cb5fc22d844.jpg?v=1571610655
18th-c-mahogany-william-mary-herringbone-inlay-antique-highboy-dresser-chest
18TH C MAHOGANY WILLIAM & MARY HERRINGBONE INLAY ANTIQUE HIGHBOY DRESSER CHEST

EARLY 18TH CENTURY WILLIAM & MARY PERIOD BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS ANTIQUE MAHOGANY HIGHBOY

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. The hand cut brass teardrop pulls and escutcheon plates are old and correct. The base is admittedly our favorite component of this piece especially the tapered trumpet legs and the Gothic style cut outs further accented with cock bead molding. We note the mid molding has been replaced, it's very well done in the correct fashion. Remnants of the original paper liner can be seen on the top.
