Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century antique Arts and Crafts Tiger Oak combination file cabinet / card catalog. The cabinet was made by Library Bureau Sole Makers who were founded in 1876 and really came into stride supplying equipment, furniture, and other services to the many new Carnegie libraries being built across the country. Library Bureau Sole Makers crafted files of all sizes along with a wide array of other library & office furnishings like desk, desk chairs, display cases, etc.. Their standard file cabinets dominated a large part of the market but their elastic cabinets like this are much rarer. The cabinet breaks down into 5 separate components, 1 frame, 2 standard files, 1 card catalog, & 1 top. The drawers actuate with ease & the file cabinet retains its original file rods, brass pulls, & index plates. There’s also a brass tag with the numbers 179 on the lower cabinet and the file is signed “Library Bureau Sole Makers” on a brass tag on the top. A flower decal was added early in the cabinet's life, and we thought about removing it at first but didn’t want to disturb the finish and we kind of like it. The cabinet is in wonderful condition with our only notes being a slight color variation in the drawers, a repair to one drawer face, & minor surface wear throughout the cabinet but nothing that would warrant a refinishing in our opinion. The large drawers have interior dimensions of 12” wide x 21 3/4” deep x 10 1/2” tall. The small drawers have useable dimensions of 5 1/8” wide x 14” deep x 3 1/2” tall. The overall dimensions of the cabinet are 19 1/4” wide x 24” deep (25” with pull) x 49 3/4” tall.
