20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE ARTS & CRAFTS QUARTER SAWN OAK SIGNED GUSTAV STICKLEY SIDEBOARD

#816 VARIATION - UNCATALOGUED - RARE PAPER LABEL

With our highest compliment and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to bring to market this early 20th century Antique arts and crafts Gustav Stickley Sideboard. We’ve attached a picture of Gustav‘s original catalog showing a very similar Sideboard, model number 816. The two sideboards are very similar and share the same format with the only difference being the base rail and the paneled sides. We prefer the aesthetic of the straight rail and the paneled sides would have been a more expensive option & is much higher quality cabinetmaking work with the added benefit of not being prone to veneer damage like the ones with flat sides. The sideboard has all of its original hammered copper hardware and the top drawer in the series of 3 retains the original orange ooze leather which we attached a few pictures of. The sideboard is signed with Gustav’s red joiners compass decal inside the top drawer and is again signed with a paper label on the underside of the top drawer. This is one of the rarest labels used in Gustav’s Eastwood NY workshop and this label can help date the piece to about 1907/1908. The main difference between this label and the more common one used from about 1908-1912 are the font and placement of the trademarks. The label is in fantastic condition & is one of the best surviving examples we’ve ever seen. The label has the production number of 816 written in pencil and some pencil marks in the finish & cov box. The sideboard was meticulously refinished sometime in the last couple of years and it is in wonderful condition with our only notes being a couple of depressions in the top that were filled and grain matched. The sideboard measures 48” wide x 19” deep x 45 1/4” tall with a surface height of 38”.
