18TH CENTURY ANTIQUE PENNSYLVANIA WALNUT HEPPLEWHITE FOUR DRAWER DRESSER / CHEST W/ FLARED FRENCH FEET
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning early 18th century Pennsylvania walnut hepplewhite chest. Although our family is from Boston we greatly appreciate Pennsylvania cabinetry. From a lovely Duncannon estate of an important American collector's home this specimen is crafted from great Pennsylvania Cherry with a beautiful finish and great usage of grain patterns. Pennsylvania cherry furniture has been a long time favorite of ours, they're much more scarce than walnut examples. The chest features a molded top over a series of four graduated drawers all retaining their original escutcheons & locks. The chest has been re-brassed with appropriate style & age pulls from the previous owner. This chest is a wonderful example of PA cabinetry with hand cut dovetails, hand chamfered bottoms rich with tool marks & original support blocks intact. Sadly most of these on the market have significant repairs & alteration. This chest is nice & pure retaining it's original integrity & and a testament to the skills of the cabinet maker. The chest stands on 4 wonderfully formed flared french feet. These have a generous splay to them & those who collect this stuff know this design can be succeptible to breaks. These are masterfully crafted and we're proud to say these feet are free from breaks. This chest measures 40 1/2" wide x 21 1/2" deep x 40" tall.
